Great stop to unwind.

This was the first place we visited, and a great place to unwind from traveling. It probably wasn't at its best in late October, but the hot houses were delightful.

I love looking at the structure of plants, and the greenhouse is nice & warm on a nippy day. But the park is the garden's true delight during the warmer seasons - simply the very best place in Leiden to hang when slightly intoxicated if young (or not so very young) or in love. The hothouse coffee house is not... More

Beautiful gardens and taken round by a highly informative guide. Plenty to see and many unusual plants often linked with quirky stories from the guides!

Along with an amazing collection of plant life, it's wonderful to have the Linaeus history. The gift shop is also one of the best I've seen.

This botanical garden is the oldest in the Netherlands, more than 400 years old. The garden is located behind the University academic building, in a very nice historical neighborhood. The garden offers beautiful views of the canal and the historical Leiden Observatory building. The green houses were recently modernized and are definitely worth visiting! So all in all, the Leiden... More

Well kept and labelled displays and gardens. They even have large sections under roofs for wet days. It will be exquisite once every thing starts flowering. English printed guides are available and reception staff also speak perfect English. Good opportunity too to just find some quiet spaces if you are travelling. I'd definitely recommend to add The Sterrewacht (Observatory) to... More

A good place to visit on a showery day in November. Interesting plants, especially the many and varied insectivorous plants at the top of one of the greenhouses. Lovely cafe.

For me one of the most beautiful and interesting places in the Netherlands. The extreme diversity of plants both in the greenhouses as in the gardens is overwhelming. The (landscape) architecture of the Hortus is impressive, it's a nice place to just wander around or work on your botanical knowledge. At the entrance is a nice small restaurant.

We visited in early October—too late for showy flowers—but it is nonetheless worth a visit. It was started in the 1500s and is now owned and managed by the University of Leiden. It is a peaceful place to walk with some great old specimen trees. The large tropical greenhouse really felt jungle-y. (When we were there, our eyeglasses and camera... More
