We traveled to Leiden especially to take the walking tour. The guide said he already had two Dutch speaking guests, and was not prepared to take English speaking visitors as well. We were happy to just accompany them and look at the sites, but the guide was adamant. The friendly and helpful staff at the centre helped us with a... More

To me, Leiden has the feel of Amsterdam, but smaller, less crowded and so charming. An old windmill, where the Pilgrims lived before sailing across the ocean, a small fortification where the inhabitants could flee for protection, a nice shopping area with several outdoor cafes and more. I found myself wanting to move here!

Lots of history in Leiden and historic buildings and places tell a good story. Historic downtown includes 2 easy-to-see windmills. Other old and beautiful buildings were found. Shopping district is centered around Haarlemmerstrasse (a walking street), near Leiden Centraal (main train station). Canals weave through historic district and rides are available on canal boats for sightseeing.

Easy stroll around historical Leiden passing good cafes, churches and lovely little streets. You pass the meeting house where the pilgrim fathers set off from on their journey that eventually ended in America!

With a guide we walked through the city centre of Leiden. The tour is 2 ours. There are 35 groups of almhouses in the city centre of Leiden. One for one, these almhouses complexes are idyllic places, where the noise of the town is shut out ande where it is if time has stood still. There is often only 1... More

The old town of Leiden is a very pleasant and lovely, not very crowded and well preserved, with lots of interesting things to see. Sort of a cleaner and smaller version of Amsterdam.

We started this walk from the square up from the train station where we had a lot of fun with the water spraying up from the ground! This is a really lovely walk with so much to see, much more than was mentioned in the tour guide. Take the time to look around the corners, we found some great cannons... More

Leiden is a lovely town and the Loop Walk was a nice way to tour the town. The walk is largely flat terrain, can be completed in a few hours at an easy pace, but the map can be a little unclear. It so happened to be the orientation day for new students at the University, so there was a... More

We loved Leiden, but the Leiden Loop has those signs which are very informative in Dutch and English but no clear way to find the signs. We stopped in the visitors office and not only is there no map for the Leiden Loop but the current map of the city is out of print. Is Leiden trying not to show... More

We walked across Leiden after taking the train from Harlem. It had beautiful shops with bargain prices. We shopped for jackets and accesories
