Cool A Castle

Sits by the river, and now appears to be a theatre. While can't go inside, can walk around outside. Pretty cool, and nice views up top as well.

Just about a 25-30 minute walk from Antwerp Central Station, through the main shopping streets, towards Grote Markt, Cathedral and river. You can freely walk up into the castle and around it to enjoy the river views.

Steen castle sits on the bank of the Schelde river and is at the heart of the original Antwerp. The lower and older part of the castle dates from the 1000s while the top and newer part dates from 1500s-1600s. Originally, the houses of the town crowded around the castle but they've all been removed.

Nice small castle, nothing extra to see, but good location. Accessible with stroller as well. Inside cafe baby and small kids friendly.

Steen Castle, locally known as Het Steen (arond in 1520), which translates to 'The Stone'. It`s normal for Flemish provinces: for instance the castle in Gehnt names as Gravensteen. it was one of the earliest buildings in Antwerp constructed with stones at a time when most houses were still built with wood. Steen was part of a much larger fortification.... More

Antwerp's oldest building used to house the maritime museum until the collection became part of the MAS. Nowadays a child friendly meeting place for young and old, especially in summer. Walk through the gate on the elevated walk from Noorder- to Zuiderterras.

This is a lovely old building which is somewhat spoilt by the surrounding bits and pieces attached. So much more could be made of this really historic landmark.
