It is a great statue that depicts the city's history. Remember that it is a fountain! When we first saw it, there was a market going on so there was no water flowing. Imagine our surprise to see the water flowing from the severed hand,...More

Well worth a look if in the area. Spend 10 mins there and people watch. Not worth seeking out if not nearby.

The statue of Silvius Brabo is not the most obvious monument. How often can you find a dismembered-hand-throwing statue related to an ancient legend in the very center of a city? Do have a read about the legend behind!

Seeing the breathtaking architecture of years gone by is such a privilege. This square is so beautiful with the cobbled paths, statues, restaurants and shops - so much history and definitely not to be missed.

However it is important as this is how Antwerp got its name from Brabo throwing the giants hand into the river. You find this out from a guided tour though as no information in the square

The Brabo statue is a beautiful statue/fountain in the Grote Markt in front of the Town Hall. It's a great spot for a touristy picture and in warm weather a place for the kids to play.
