The Citadel in Liege refers to the remnants of the Liege fortification that formed the origins of this Belgium city. Much of the original stone framework has been destroyed; some has been incorporated into the modern city; another key section apparently was destroyed to allow the construction of a very large hospital toward the top of the highest hill. According... More

Les Coteaux are a favorite spot for our walks in Liege. in the city, but apart from it. Depending on the path, you will see orchards, cows, gardens, woods and trails - with incredible views of the city of Liege below, along the banks of the snaking Meuse River. It has become a habit.

I would like to emphasize specially this sight as a quiet place situated in the center of Liège. It's absolutely peaceful and easy to access, but not for disabled as there are many stairs, either at the beginning or at the end. Along the way, you discover in the middle of some lawns and flowerbeds, the Old Prince-Bishop palace, the... More

You have to go there and see the elevated view of the city and the river valley to really enjoy it and relax. Getting up the hill is certainly worth the effort.

Long walk through paths sloping and strewed with vestiges of the Middle Ages, with magnificent sights of the city of Liège. Beginning with a high stone staircase called "Montagne de Bueren"

the access to these stacked gardens and backyards is somewhat difficult to find but once you find your way up the stairs there are a lot of beautiful and quiet corners ahead. a very good visit!!

If you come to Liège, by train if possible (train station by Calatrava is simply said, beautiful or even marvelous), go straight to Touring office and chose a guide for the "coteaux de la Citadelle" and you will see somethink unsual, the very old part of the town, along the hill, very well maintained and you will feel as in... This walk is not pleasant in rainy weather (slippery !) but at other times it is really enjoyable. You'll get out of town in a matter of minutes in places you wouldn't think existed. It's a pleasant walk, but with a guide it gets all the more interesting : what rooftops are you seeing, what crimes took place, why are... More

Took the steps and found a restful barricade, encircled by pathways (and excellent vistas). An interesting visit.

We rather cheated and drove up to the citadel thereby missing the steps and the quaint neighbourhood that lies below the defensive walls. The citadel itself lies in the grounds of the city's major hospital so exploring the surviving walls and bastions means mixing with other visitors with more series intent. In fact the defensive works are not in particularly... More
