Lovely

One of the most famous places in Gent which you must visit when you are in the city of Gent. Lovely old atmosphere with a lovely walking area and some green places.

Till before the French Revolution, this was thé largest and wealthiest abbey in the Netherlands. It took over 10 years to desolve all of its property. Thanks to the impressive square in front of it, it shows its vast facade. Visit the abbey museum with a video guide 'Alisson' and the gardens at the waterfront. Especially during summer a nice... Behind the church there is a beautiful little garden with a vineyard. For budget travelers like myself it's a perfect alternative to take it easy, relax and have a picnic instead of going out to a restaurant. It's also a perfect place for a day out with the family or just spend some time in the sun.

We took the Alison tour -an audio visual which takes you into very interesting and usually inaccessible places. I would thoroughly recommend it -but leave plenty of time as it takes nearly 1.5 hours plus time in the church.

Behind the church there is a garden and a small vineyard, a beautiful green oasis in the middle of the city where in a warm, sunny day you can have a picnic. Relax and enjoy this hidden gem!

A Large abbey, in side too, worth a look around, lovely large alter piece spacious inside some paintings too and a nice Lecturn. They say that it is like St Peters Basilica in Rome that i personally do not think so as St Peters to me is much Larger

This church is a bit south of the city center and you may want to visit if you have time. But there is probably nothing that you would make your schedule around. A nice quiet place.

Relax in the garden, enjoy the expositions, come to rest in the church, see the remains of the old abbey in the garden...you won't regret it.

I was hoping to make a proper visit to this distinguished and historical church and abbey as I live and am involved in a variety of ways with Lewisham, SE London! Time ran out but for a brief peer inside and chat with the woman at the desk before heading for my Megabus rendezvous. She had not even heard of... More
