A beautiful Church situated alongside the canal and close to St Michaels Bridge. Constructed from grey sandstone, typical of the area, it is recognised as a Roman Catholic church. Original construction is thought to date back to 1105 although two fires in the twelfth century razed it to the ground. The existing building was probably started sometime in the fifteenth... More

As this is a must see attraction in the heart of Ghent I find it hard to believe that it wasn't open during the winter. It stands high and proud alongside the canal and St Michael's Bridge and is a colossus from the outside. Such a shame I didn't get to go inside too.

One of the best churches of the city. Made from grey stone, it's made in the classical style of Flanders and even if not very unique still you will appreciate it a lot. Come and make a visit.

As other reviewers have mentioned, this church has a pretty, beautiful interior that is not as gloomy or gothic as the interior of the cathedral. Lovely stained glass windows and an inspiring construction. Well worth a visit. On Saturday there is a little market near the church too which is quite interesting.

Like most churches of the medieval era with a gothic design this place is beautiful. Great arches/ high ceilings, beautiful paintings and statues, etc. Free to walk inside and take it all in. Plus its located right along that main historic canal.

Construction started around 1440, so it is late gothic. Large windows provide clarity and a quite atmosphere. Several old masters' paintings of which one Van Dijk. I was impressed by the high vaults and the complex arches which span over two windows while crossing the nave. Free entry.
