Loverly cathedral with a Rubans in the north transept and a loverly high alter which includes marble - unusual in the low counties. But the piece de resistance is the "Adoration of the Mystic Lamb" alter piece for which we where so grateful for the English audio guides to explain the incredible detail on the painted panels.

I admit, I was 100% going to see the Ghent altarpiece after seeing Monuments Men, but the visit was so much more. The cathedral itself is breathtaking and extensive. Even as somebody who is not religious, I love the aspirational aspects of humanity that cathedrals of this scale represent and the sheer wonder of their construction given the technology of... More

We were kind of hurried through here on our city tour of Ghent, but we did get to go inside and see the Ghent Altarpiece. I got shushed when I confirmed with our tour guide that no pictures were allowed so don't take pictures and whisper! We were told we could take pictures in the rest of the cathedral, as... More

This was my second visit to St Bavo's cathedral, but the first with a tour guide and I learnt so much more about the architecture. If you want to see the incredible Mystic Lamb (charge), you might like to know that, between 12-13:00 each day, the doors of the screen are closed so that you can see the front of... More

The is a must see place in Ghent. There are some wonderful paintings by some very well know painters. Ghent was a very wealthy city in the past and this wealth is evident in the art works. It is free to visit however there is a section were you have to pay a small amount, this is to see a... More

Well worth a visit if your are in Ghent. Make show you go to see The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb. You have to pay for this but well worth the money with a had set commentary. Staff very helpful and the building itself is quite amazing.

Even we could not take any pictures inside, it was "the place" to visit. The oratory, the crypt and the van Eyck brothers "holy lamb" are the highlights.

I didn't get to see the Mystic Lamb as a tour group just arrived but I spent time in the main cathedral. So nice to visit a Cathedral that doesn't have security all around it. Entrance is free and no photos are permitted inside so frustrating to see ignorant tourists ignoring this and clicking away. I loved the interior, unusual... More

This was one of the stops that we had to make on our visit to Ghent. We had read about the Adoration of the Mystic Lamb before we went. Seeing it in person was worth the visit to Ghent. Get the audio tour (free) so you can understand the history and the meaning of the piece. We did not have... More

A stop here is worth it just to be able to view the Ghent Altarpiece with your own eyes. It's not every day you can see a masterpiece in person. The rest of the cathedral was beautiful as well.
