The historic center of Bruges has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000 thanks to its status as one of the commercial and cultural capitals of Europe and its enduring Gothic architecture. The Belgian city center is cited as a great example of a medieval historic settlement, even while it has evolved over the years.

Picture post card medieval style buildings all around the Markt square. Cobbled streets radiate from the Square with many interesting Dickensian style shops selling lace, chocolates and every kind of beer.

And unique, beautiful, interesting. We thoroughly enjoyed out two days here and already want to return. We took the free walking tour and it was a real treat to learn about Brugge's past.

The historic center of Brugge is beautiful with the historic buildings surrounding the square. It is also the meeting point for free walking tours of the city.
