Start your visit to Bruges in the Historium: a wonderful historical-experience attraction that takes you back in time to the Golden Age of Bruges. Cinematic sets, with music and special effects, propel you into a love story, based on Jan Van Eyck’s painting ‘Virgin and Child with Canon van der Paele'. For anyone who wants a taste of virtual reality: the VR Experience takes you on a virtual tour of medieval Bruges. You travel back in time and get to explore the historical city interactively. The Historium is housed in a historical building on the market square, where the Waterhalle once stood. The Waterhalle was the central shipping entrepot of the thriving mercantile centre Bruges. Bruges was renowned for its luxury textiles and clothing. But the art of Bruges was also highly prized: precious metals, manuscripts, miniatures and of course, the painted panels of Flemish Primitives, such as Hans Memling and Jan van Eyck. In the attraction and the VR Experience, the Waterhalle is superbly reconstructed. You can follow the story in your own language on an audio guide (10 languages). After your visit, you can enjoy a nice Belgian beer or other refreshments in the Duvelorium Grand Beer Cafe... with a panoramic view on the market square. Historium Brugge is open daily from 10h00 a.m. – 6h00 p.m. (tickets until 5h00 p.m.). Accessible for all ages – Family Trail included. Audio guides in 10 different languages.

This is a walk-through experience through 7 rooms decorated and with temperature, sounds and smells specific to the setting. A film is also shown in each room telling a love story that illustrates themes of the period. This intrigued me and was mildly fun, but...More

My experience was quite boring and well below expectation. I stepped in with the hope to learn about Brugge history. But instead, I was presented a 10-min kid movie with some animation (can't skip, as the doors are controlled, the doors will release you one...More

I lived for ten years in Bruges and I thought a visit to the Historium would teach my British kids about the (medieval) history of this beautiful city. The building in which it is housed is a great location and quite a lot of money...More

This exposition does not tell you the whole story or history of Bruges but it is a very good way to get introduced to the city and its rich history and afterwards stroll through the city. Personally, I feel it should have had a few...More

Looking back on it, you don't really learn much about the history of Brugge, but honestly this was such a nice change from the usual museum that I am still going to give it five stars. I believe we paid about EUR12 each and you...More

We didn't quite understand what to expect when we entered this attraction, and during the trip we kept hoping it would get more interesting and would teach us more about the history of Brugge - but this unfortunately never happened. So here's a clear description...More

The Historium is an odd place as the first half is taken up by an audio guide where in you are taken through seven rooms by your virtual 'guide' Jacob as he falls in love with Anna the actress who poses the famous artist, Jan...More

The Historium was a complete waste of time if you are interested in the history of Bruges. 7 themed rooms with a cinema screen following a love story of a young boy in my view is not a history of Bruges. Over prices and lacking...More

The inviting animatronic model leaves a bit to be desired but the audio guides and associated film taking you through the seven rooms telling a story within the history of Brugge. Good enough though and a nice way to find out more about Brugge.

I've always wanted to visit the Historium and I must say my expectations were met really well. It's everything combined: an interactive museum in which you will be breathtaken from the start. I must add to this that I would not recommend this attraction for...More
