Full scale reconstructions of war scenes, an extended collection of weapons, war equipment and photos make this museum to a true must-see!The chapel, in which the museum is located, dates back from the early twenties. This chapel was built directly across the Hooge Crater cemetery in memory of the many fallen soldiers on the battle fields of ‘Hooge’ over a period of 4 years. Rare military clothing of the troops, that where fighting in the ‘Ypres Salient’ (Ieperboog) are exposed in glass displays. Also you can see some full scale scenes of the Great War battle fields, very authentically reproduced. The theme of the scenes is very divers: German bunkers, British trenches and full scale horses with cavalry troops on their backs.

There are so many memorials and museums in this location. The Hooge Crater Museum is exceptional however - well presented information and lots of open space for reflection of the actions and inactions of individuals and governments.

We called here after a disappointing, visit Sanctuary Wood, it was packed. There is a cafe/bar which offers a package price e.g. choice of ham, pate or cheese, sandwich, tea/coffee and entrance to the museum. We decided to eat before looking in the museum and opted for pate, when it arrived there were two "slabs" of bread, a chunk of pate and... Excellent small Museum, but a must visit when in the area. Take your time going around the diorama displays as its easy to miss small essential viewing items. Likewise with the pictures, as there is some stuff here you will not see elsewhere. Overall a haunting experience. Take time to visit the cemetery opposite. The cafe/bar here is also worth... More

It was easy to park. The Cost was only 5 euros but well worth the money. Excellent range of displays and well preserved items from WWI. Visited on the off chance and it was well worth the money. Probably about one hour needed in all with the visit to the cemetery opposite. Cafe there as well.

This is not far from Sanctuary Wood and complimented the visit showing more of what our men endured. There is also a nice restaurant nearby offering a very nice meal

Super museum... very cheap entrance fee and jammed packed with items from the war. For the price it's worth a visit. The video outside is excellent too with lots of detail... this is free 👍

This is a very interesting museum full of collected items from ww1 specifically relating to the Hooge area. We went for the €11:50 deal that gave lunch as well (very good value). I would advise a walk around the crater and trenches to complete the trip

Really interesting and well displayed collection of Great War artefacts. Friendly staff and good food available too. Definitely one of the best museums in the area. Don't miss it!
