What makes this more than just another cemetery if the John McCrae memorial dedicated to the author of the famous poet who wrote "in Flanders fields" as well as the remains of hospital bunkers where wounded and dying were treated.

Beside the cemetry , visit the advanced medical station , look accross the canal to see " the other Side " , at the far end see whats left of the emergency housing provided by the Belgian government for the local population during the war , made using pre-fabricated concrete , covered with metal sheets and then with earth.

This should be a stop on your WWI battle tour. It is a hospital cemetery that the doctor that wrote In Flanders Fields worked at. Good example of field hospital and memorial to the author of the poem.

Just park in the lay bye and walk in. Some information on display panels in English. Not a large cemetery by salient standards.

A chance to see an advanced dressing station; it's easy to imagine what it was like for Dr. John McCrae working in those conditions so long ago.

We found the Essex Farm Cemetery a bit outside of Ieper, as the Tourism Info had indicated us. There were many tombstones, but the sun was shining on this graveyard. There were so many tombs! =That shocked me a bit. Those poor soldiers! The granite obelisk stood tall on the top of the canal bank. It is a memorial to... More

If you grew up learning the poem " In Flanders Fields" by John McCrae. Close to the city of Ieper and easy to get to

Moving place to visit. You can only imagine the suffering that occurred at this site. Very popular and on most battlefield itineraries so it can get a little crowded, but we'll worth the effort.

One gets the impression of being in MacRae's shoes when he wrote "In Flanders Fields" - very well preserved.

A truly poignant place. Forward dressing station where "In Flanders Fields" was written and resting place of a VC and the youngest soldier, just 15.
