A lovely square with amazing Belgian architecture that has lots of bars, restaurants and chocolate shops around the perimeter. We visited on a Sunday so it was very quiet but we will definitely be returning for a weekend and enjoying the local hostelries and ale.

It is unbelivable to look at this and think this has been loving rebuilt twice in the last 100yrs. You would not know as it looks perfect. At night the way the buildings are lit really give them another dimention. Beautiful is a word that is often used, but it really is.

We went here for the Christmas Market, but spent more time wandering around the square than actually in the market. A lovely little square with lots of 'traditional' shops, chocolates, memorabilia and possibly the biggest meringues I have ever seen! Well worth a trip.

Good value meats, breads and cheese. Also clothes stalls a good ladies stole type scarf can be obtained for 5 euros. You will need to be up early.

To say this square was completely destroyed in WW1 the reconstruction is fantastic. I love this place and will be visiting again later this year. This will be my 5th visit and I'm still finding new things.

This beautiful square is dominated by the grand civic buildings. All around the square are beautiful examples of the old Flemish architecture of the region. Tall stepped roof lines, high narrow windows and beautiful brickwork. All around the square are shops, bars and cafes so spending time admiring the view in this beautiful square is not difficult.

There are quite a few things the Belgiums do well. Apart from the fine beer and chocolates, one our favourites is town squares. They are usually big open spaces surrounded by sensational gothic arcutecture and Ypres does not disappoint. The most inspiring building is the famous "Cloth hall" as you can see in the picture. What you do not see... More

Lovely square I went there on a school trip to visit the World War 1 memorial sites there were lots of lovely little cafes and shops selling chocolate. I went into a café without a name has the best hot chocolate I've had in awhile. I would definitely recommend going to Ypres.

In terms of visiting Ypres, all roads lead to the market square. It very much is tourist central with some stunning architecture in the buildings, a good array of cafes and restaurants, the In Flanders Fields Museum and as a meeting point for battlefield tours. Plenty to do: thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
