Ancient Stonework

Looked a few times for the Castle Wall & think I found it up a steep winding street in the Old Town. There is a plaque next to it in Portuguese saying Northern Entrance , so I... read more

I'm a bit of a culture vulture & am happy to track down a church etc but this really is a waste of time.

Very small piece of the old castle. Just a small piece of wall about 20 feet wide containing some original stonework.A large part is still under the current buildings.

You can see that´s an old wall. You will not get excited. It is poorly restored and gives you a feeling that it is an artificial wall. Not worth visiting!

If you miss this no big deal. As far as history goes this is not very exciting, especially if you have been around and travelled.

Like most towns of the old days, there are remnants of the old town, castle or city walls, I say remnants, because that is what is left, not much in this case, I saw the photo saying 'Norte Porta' and it brought me back, still for any history holiday maker, it should be on the to do list,

Found the castle wall on one of my walks around Albufeira but not really much to look at. There is simply a piece of the old castle wall and a plaque in Portugese.

You can actually see part of the Castle walls and you enter through the old gates, lots of history seeing Al buhera (moorish spelling) up one of the little side streets there is an actual moorish arch still in tact
