This is an interesting statue of St Vincent of Albufeira who was a Jesuit missionary who travelled to Japan in the 16 century. He tried to convert to population to Christianity but was imprisoned and eventually martyred. The statues looks superb and the history attached very interesting and you can sit here on one of the benches and chill out... More

Statue was close to our hotel so we decided to have a look, it's a small well kept area and was nice to see it, churches around the area are also worth a look along with a small museum just down the hill from the statue!

The statue represents the area of San Vicente (St Vincent) and is important from both a historical and religious point of view. Unfortunately the building which ajoins it is derelict and an absolute eyesore. In its day it must have been a beautiful building.

Statue of Jesuit missionary who was born in Albufeira in the 16th century and went to Japan as one of the first travelers trying to persuade the local population to convert to Christianity and I believe was martyred.

As I got up to this site by the tuk tuk . I hurriedly posed by this statue to take pics before going off to take in the lovely views of santa Luz. I read some of the stories as to why his statue is here and it's really sad... this is a good tribute for such a saint.

This statue stood in a small park like area. It is situated just across from the hotel we stayed in.

I found this summary about the São Vicente statue on internet and want to share it with all the travellers. "This monument, in honour of the Friar Vicente de Stº António, is located in the Largo Jacinto d'Ayet square. Saint Vicente was born in 1590 in the Town of Albufeira and his mother offered him to Our Lady of Orada... More

Like the previous reviewer never took much notice for ages, but while taking a second look and finding out the history and how impressing the quality of the workmanship is, I would like to endorse his comments, there are so many gems in our foreign travels we simply don't notice!

Have to say with hand on heart, that I walked past this statue countless times, saw it here, so decided to review it! What could be said about this lovely statue of St Vicente, from my own point of view is that it adds to the atmosphere of the old town, and may give yerself a little blessing when going... More
