A far cry from the modern Faro, the walled Old Town has a charm missing elsewhere in the city. The cobbled streets and church square lined with orange trees give a glimpse of how life used to be. Take time for a wander.

There is so much to see here, it’s the perfect place to spend an hour or two strolling around with a coffee. Narrow, beautiful streets, with cafes everywhere. Take some time out to wander about, its worth it.

The old town is very nice for wandering around, see a church, free museum and getting some drinks. If you visit it you should walk all the way to the outside of the wall.

You can walk around the harbour and enter the old town this way, althought there are other routes. I like the old church and the street lined with orange trees I have carried this memory for 30 years or more and this part still looks the same. Some of the old places are empty and neglected but a large building... More

It has been a while since we have visited the Old Town. It was pleasant to walk around at this time of year as it was quite quiet. There a good mix of shops, both independent and those belonging to a chain. The streets are pedestrian only and the marina is adjacent. Well worth spending a few hours exploring the... More

Clearly from the size of the cathedral one can tell that Faro was a small port city until it's recent tourist boom. The old and the new do not flow together very naturally in this city but the city within the ancient walls nonetheless provides some elegant vistas and interesting attractions.
