Worth noting the mural behind the altar, which shows a battle between angels.

Built in 1498 as the Church of Mercy (Misericordia Church), it was destroyed by the earthquake of 1755. It was the object of restorations and extensions in the 18th century. XVI and XVII, having been instituted as a parish church, dedicated to Santa Maria. A part of the church dates back to the mid-nineteenth century, when it was restored after... More

This church is just off the square in the old town and worth popping into. There is a window just above the altar which seems to fill the church with sunshine. The church is small and quite charming in its simplicity. It reflects the surrounding area of narrow cobblestone streets.

Recently re-painted, this is a lovely church to visit to take time out to reflect. Facing into the square, statue and water feature.

The ceiling of this church is probably the best I have ever seen. You can actually feel the peace in this church. to get there just walk along the river bank keeping it on your left, when you come to the castle ruins then cross the road and past the water fountains then the church is on your left.

Place of peace right in the main square of Lagos. Always go there whenever in Lagos. Although its relatively simple inside the presence of the Holy Spirit is beautiful :-)

We loved it in here and there was a museum close by to it which was very good, lots of Roman and pre historic relics, no booklet on the museum though which was a shame

Lovely church with some amazing architecture and religious artefacts. No entrance fee which we were expecting to pay. Worth a visit and spending time to take in the atmosphere. There are some elderly women begging outside which was a bit off putting but they didn't push things too far - just a shame they have to be in that situation.
