Dive deep into a former volcano and see all of the beautiful life and minerals growing on the walls. Changes colors as the day goes on and is simply majestic. Go deeper into magma made caverns and chambers to no end. Talk to local tour...More

Went to this attraction after hearing about it from other travelers and it was something I had never experienced before. Beautiful yet unbelievable. Lots of steps and dripping water but tons of fun.

This is well worth the trip even if you are not a cave enthusiast. It is quite a magical experience...this is no ordinary cave. Wear a rain jacket and a hat for the occasional drips. It is cooler in the cave than outside. There are a...More

How often can you say you've climbed into a 3,000 year old volcano? I thought we were just visiting a cave, but we got an education on this visit - about the history of Terceira, the once active volcano, the silica stalagmites and the actual...More

We visited the caves on a rainy day during our stay. The natural formation is very beautiful and the guided trails are very safe. Just be aware that there are a lot of steps to climb.

I have been to many caves and this is nothing worth the trouble unless you’re a real cave freak, all it is , is a vent hole takes all of 5 min too go in and out

We loved going inside a volcano and viewing the incredible rocks, plant life, and other beauties. The photos don't really do it justice at all. 6euros per person entrance, but buy a combo ticket for 9 Euros and see Christmas Cave, as well.

It was a unique experience to descend around 300 steps deep into an extinct volcanic crater chimney/ cave and to imagine it full of lava. The naturalists at bottom were eager to inform and answer every question of which we had plenty.

I went here after buying the two-caves ticket at Gruta do Natal (6 km away, close to the walking trail "Misterios Negros") which was probably cheaper then 2 separate entries - 9€ for both (6€ for 1). These caves are each one different although both...More

I believe it's open all year round. We were there in January. It is only open in the afternoon. Enjoy your trip. I love the Azores!

It's approximately ten minutes by car. You should absolutely do the combined ticket and see both if you have a car.
