An amazing place well worth a visit. It has a bit confusing opening hours but the worse it can happen is for you to wait 20' till the next opening. It's impossible to buy a ticket only for this site and for 10€ you get to visit another 2 less attractive sights but as they are just next door it's... More

We stopped in Coimbra mainly to see this (although my husband didn't know that until we got there). Definitely worth a visit! This library may be one of the most amazing ones I've seen. I wish we could have taken photos within, but it really was beautiful. There is a ton of history here, so lots to learn during your... More

This library is one of the most gorgeous and amazing places I have been. Full o details and amazing history. Do not let it fool you from the outside, because the inside is really impressive. It is a must visit in coimbra!

This has to be one of the most breathtaking lilbraries I've ever been to, and as an academic I've been to plenty. The architecture and ornamental features are dazzling. Don't miss!

We came to Coimbra purely for 1 reason - to see this library & it didn't disappoint. What a sight & to think bats still live in the room...

Fairly nondescipt building from the outside, amazing inside. One of the oldest libraries in the world. Any student who had had the privilege of going to Coimbra University will know that they been to a very special university.

Stunning library and so unique how they preserve the books with bats! Number one place to visit at the university.

A definite must-see at the University of Coimbra, this Library will make you wish you had lived in late Medieval Portu Cale.

Fully expected my jaw to drop, and it did. Lived up to outrageous expectations. In the off season, you can walk up and buy a ticket, then walk in 5 minutes later. There's not much to the tour, but it's better that way. All you need to do is stand there for 10 minutes, look around you, and take it... More
