You really must visit this botanic garden when you are in Coimbra, An oasis of nature and quiet. So nice on a hot day after climbing all the way up to the university :)

The perfect place to escape from the summer heat. Shady, well layed out, with easy walking paths. Lots of interesting plants.

...Although the whole of Coimbra is also quite calm, but indeed a welcome respite from the high temperatures.

There were a few very old and very large trees here, and a rather varied group of plantings, and vey nice landscape architecture. It was quite pleasant outdoors walking around even at midday.

We visited the Botanical Garden a bit by accident, since it is not really mentioned as 'worth visiting'. You can see this is a place with an historical past, but today it needs an 'update'.

We had a nice walk in the garden. It's pretty huge, but worth seeing. We liked the bamboo forest especially.

As few as Botanical Gardens go, this is not outstanding, but it is worth wandering around if you are in the are. Currently not particularly maintained, but not surprising with the competing attractions in the area. It would have been stunning on years past though.
