The oldest "non baptised" University in Europe. It is full of history and culture, if the student still dressing the traditional uniforms and giving a "hard" time to students. On top of the hill in Coimbra from the moment you see it you are teleported in history to the days that most of the great artists and doctorets were born.... More

The architecture is absolutely stunning, and a must see if you are anywhere near Coimbra. So many wonderful photo opportunities, and whilst it is quite a hilly city, and the pull up from the river can be taxing, it is well worth the effort

You will pay for a visit, that you will remember for a life. With kids, ir without them, you will see unforgetable treasures fullfilled of traditions and emotions owned by portuguese students and non students. Visit... you will like for sure.

One of the most beautifull universities in Europe, and it's the oldest in Portugal. Incredible also the Joanina's library.

We were given timed visits for some of the areas and told to go to the chapel first. When we got to the chapel they were actually about to start a mass there so we could not visit properly which was rather annoying.

Coimbra university if in the most amazing location, on top of a hill, the views are wonderful, the small (sometimes steep) streets the wind around the university are great. I studied in a city based university in London, this place is just spectacular!

Charming and historic. If passing through Coimbra, don't miss the [steep and painful] climb to the university. In addition to the library, which is a wonder that cannot be missed, it presents beautiful views, historic stories and a lovely student atmosphere in the winder. The atmosphere is what will make you fall in love with this city, and nowhere is... More
