Opened in 1998, the Oceanário was the centerpiece of the XXth Century's last World Fair, themed "The Oceans, a Heritage for the Future", and eternally binds Lisbon to the Oceans.MissionThe Oceanário’s mission is to promote knowledge of the oceans and bring up the public about the duty of protecting natural heritage, through changing their daily habits. While walking through impressive and unforgettable exhibits, visitors are encouraged to learn fascinating things about the oceans and, more importantly, how to make decisions in their daily lives that actively promote the conservation of nature.

This was one of the best aquariums we have been to (we have visited many). It is very educational and interesting. The large tank has many viewing places both at higher levels and at the bottom with side specialty tanks.

Never thought of visiting an oceanarium in Lisbon but surprisingly it was very well accessible, not costly for family and well thought through building. Lot of different types of ocean animals! It was really a nice family activity to do in Lisbon.

We visited here in November 2017 and spent a good hour here. It wasn’t busy, but we was there as soon as it opened. It was well worth the trip.

We spent a couple of hours at the Oceanarium in Nov. 2017 and enjoyed if fully. Very attractive architecture and all main bio species of fauna and flora were very beautifully represented. The temporary exhibition of marine photographs was particularly beautiful.

An amazing place to visit. The aquarium has lots of facts and figures and the planet. The penguins and sea otters were lovely. Good value for money

I think everyone had the same idea on the day we went so it was very busy. The large tank in the centre of the aquarium was very good, but we struggled to see the smaller displays dotted around the outside due to the number...More

I liked this place, because my lil son (2.5 years) enjoyed being there very much. He was observing every creature very attentively and with a great surprise. But for adults it didn’t give the wow-effect.

The Oceanarium has an interesting collection of sea life housed in various habitats and aquariums (ranging in size from enormous to small). We would have spent a lot more time here (and given it four stars) had there been lists of the different species with...More

Parque das Nacoes
This neighborhood was built up at the end of the 1990s
mostly because of the Expo '98. The pavilions and
structures that once were the home of all the Expo's
attractions and exhibits are still culturally and
artistically significant. In Parque das Nações you'll
explore conference and concert pavilions, a shopping
center, trendy restaurants and an enjoyable cable car
ride you can't miss out on. On top of this, the

No extra ticket needed, but as 'Mbvanwees' just said, it all depends on feeding times. You may be able to catch the penguins being fed, but I suspect they feed the fish in the main tank when the aquarium is closed.
