The Terreiro Do Paço or Praça do Comércio is a large square located at the end of the R.Augusta near the Targus River. Not a huge amount to see or do, but a good place to get away from the crowds, to wander and watch the world go by. The Rua Augusta Arch (sometimes referred to as the Lisbon Gate)... More

This is very nice square, not to miss when in Lisbon. But please be aware of hustlers walking around and selling stuff. They are a bit pushy.

A man intended to rob my wife's umbrella when we were on the square around 7pm. It started to get dark and was drizzling. He did not success at once since he walked toward my wife so obviously(even wait people between passing through) which has already aroused our awareness. I yell "Hey! Not funny" when he tried to slip after... More

A range of cafes and retailers around two sides and a focal point of central Lisbon. A good base to begin walks through the neighbourhoods and up to viewpoints

The architecture is without a doubt impressive. Definitely climb up the arch and peer down on Lisbon in all directions. It is beautifully decorated during the holidays. We welcomed 2017 by the waterfront in Praca do Comercio. Highly recommended.

This a a big square with lots of restaurants and cafes. Very easy to move around and at the end of the Long stretch stands the arch. Good for either visit during the day or at night.

The place of Lisboa! All the streets lead to this place. One of the largest place of Europe. Have a drink there and then have a break next to the Tagus River. You need to go to the Lisboa Story Center you'll learn all the history of this place. A must see during your trip.

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
