Lisbon is a great city for a short break, offering a great diversity of activities mostly within walking distance. The only downside was the taxi from the airport which was ridiculously expensive. A policeman stands by the taxi rank pointing tourists to the taxis be wary and take the normal car size not a people mover as you pay double.... More

I took the red tour on Saturday 5th March 2017. As we approached the bus at the starting point we were et by a ticket seller who was very polite, spoke good English and was very informative. At the time he advised us that as it was off season that our 20 euro bought us a ticket that was valid... More

In this review, I will offer some practical tips for going around the city, rather than focussing on individual attractions. I'm sure there are already enough reviews about all the places and you will have a fair idea of which ones you are planning to visit. Here are my tips: (1) Do not rely only the metro In most western... More

First things first .... The Portuguese are lovely, friendly people. That, for me, was half the fun of the trip. Lisbon is full of charming narrow streets, with copious amounts of watering holes. Lots of statues and places of interest to visit, and a fantastic indoor "sit, eat & drink" market with WC's in case you over indulge the drinking... More

I am so sorry I had not read previous reviews before we went to Lisbon this week. The bus smelled of diesel. The majority of the headsets did not work and the bus spent ages waiting at bus stops. When we complained to a representative after the trip, she just shrugged her shoulders.

A central roundabout in Lisbon. Worth a visit on a sightseeing bus. A worthy monument dedicated to the former politician from the Kings Court.

Lisbon is like a teenager asleep in their messy bedroom. You know there is a wonderful being in there somewhere and you just want to yell " Get up, take a shower". Sorry about the earthquake and tsunami, but it is 2017 and there is nothing a lick of paint and a scrubbing brush wouldn't put right. The food, wine... More

Do not take the yellow bus for sightseeing. Poor value for money. Did not stop anywhere. My hotel tried to sell the tour and I bought it.

DON'T BOOK THIS TOUR! I did a tour with this company in early January 2017. At one point I waited for an hour while other bus companies were passing by. The drivers are not friendly. The stops are far in between. The buses are old, all you listen to is the diesel engine noise. There's a central stop next to... More

After being charged £22 each for a sightseeing tour of Lisbon, we were very disappointed. The headphones hardly worked and when they did we only got information about shopping in Lisbon, nothing about the history. The bus was old and dilapidated. Every time it stopped there was an awful engine smell. The chosen route up and down back streets was... More

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
