A relatively good place to look at the city sprawl, but nothing exceptional either. The Convent of Sao Pedro de Alcantara on the other side of the Miradouro has a spectacular chapel and some intricate ceramic tilework in the nave of the adjoining church.

Stunning place that offers probably the best views on Lisbon downtown and uptown. The whole area nearby is great for a stroll

This awesome viewpoint is located at the top of Gloria's funicular route, an easy way to get to Bairro Alto rather then trudging up steps. The views of the city are magnificent many photo opportunities to be had.

At the top end of the famous telepheric tram from near the train station, to the right are steps up to the overlook (miradouro) of Sao Pedro de Alcantara, and has a wonderful view of Lisbon, and more so at night, with a number of artisan vendors.

A beautiful, big terrace with an amazing view of Lisbon (including the castle). Located in Bairro Alto, which makes it a perfect place to meet with friends in the evening to enjoy the view of the city lights and then start the night in bars nearby.

Pretty spectacular viewpoint of Lisbon and Tejo river. The map highlights the points of interest of the buildings below. Nice terrace and fountain. Great place to sit back and reflect on the city below. Small craft market adds additional interest to this area. Neat Sangria stand offering cool drinks to passerbys.

The most beautiful belvedere in the city. It´s not the most famous, or the one that gives the most striking views of the city. But, definitely, it´s the most beautiful and charming place to see Lisbon.

From here you have a nice view of the downtown area of Lisbon. The terrace is spacious, and includes a cafe and stands with handicrafts. It's easily accessible through the "Ascensor da Gloria", one of the furnicular trams.

At the Miradouro there is a great coffee stop of the same name. Enjoy a pastel de nata whilst enjoying the views over Lisbon.

Staying in Chiado & Carmo

Neighbourhood Profile
Chiado & Carmo
The traditionally trendy "Chiado" (literally, "squeak", the nickname of a 16th century poet) offers plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars where you can stop for a cafe or cocktail, after exploring its streets, shops, art galleries, theaters, museums and viewpoints. It's also the home to the statue of the famous statue of portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, having is usual espresso at "A Brasileira" as he used to. You can also enjoy breathtaking views of Lisbon from the Elevador de Santa Justa or the Carmo Convent, for example. A commercial neighborhood at its core, especially for its Garrett and Carmo streets, Chiado is to this day a mandatory visit in Lisbon.
