I never heard of Fado music before my trip to Lisbon- but after visiting Alfama I decided to visit Amalia's house. The lovely lady that showed me around worked and lived with Amalia for 40+ years and had great stories about her.

This is a must see. We had never heard of the music style of Fado and only saw this as a stop on the hop on and off bus - no real information to be found at tourist information - so thought it would be great to see a typical house. It was so much more, the guide was amazing... More

Even if you're not into 'fado', as this is the Lisbon residence of the star until her death in 1999. It gives you the feel of a Lisbon town house. Her life and the way she lived is evident. We were taken around by a real fan, who was knowledgable and obviously cares very much for the house. The cafe... More

I stumbled across this place by accident on a Sunday morning, and I am so glad I did. I knew about Amalia before the visit and walking around the place gives you a real feel for the lady. The museum is Amalia's house which has been preserved since her death. There are stunning pictures and displays of her clothes and... More

We were staying in the Amalia Rodrigues Suite at Hotel Aviz, and had never heard of her, so decided to visit this foundation. It was our best experience of Lisbon. Estrela worked for Amalia for forty years, and though there was only two of us, we were in there an hour and a half talking to her about her memories... More

My friend really wanted to visit the place. However I was quite impressed by yhe beauty and yet simplicity of the place. The guide spoke English and could answer our questions very well. The tour did not take long, mostly because it was just the two of us.

We got to the museum weary and footsore to be told it was closed for the lunch hour. When I expressed disappointment and asked for refreshment, we were shown through to the garden at the back of the house, and within a short space of time we were being looked after by a calm and attractive waitress, who sensibly suggested... If you're a fan of fado, a visit to the the house where Amalia Rodrigues lived for the last 40 years of her life is a must. But even if you don't know anything about fado or Amalia, it's an interesting look at the inside of a Lisbon house. The entrance fee includes a personal guided tour of the house,... More

Even if you are not a fado lover, but are Amalia fan you will love this visit, the chance to connect with her personal objects, check her dresses and jewelry, visit some of the rooms inside the house, it was very emotional for me to see all this, it was a great experience.
