You’ll never find the funicular depicted in the 2008 TripAdvisor featured photo, the one of a gleaming yellow funicular with only a dozen passengers. What now exists is a graffiti-covered cable car with a queue as long as a Fidel Castro speech☺ The guide had...More

While waiting in line, we noticed that the second (counter balance) tram arrived in a flash...we figured the ride couldn't be that far. (Later read that it's 276m/900ft). Coupled with the long wait for those to unload/load, we made the decision to ditch the line...More

Come on. It is a minutes drive. We did it and when you get off you feel like an idiot. 2 hours later we walked up the same way to bairro alto. Took us 3 min. Take it only if you are over 80.... otherwise-...More

I don't know what is wrong with some people. OK this (a) only lasts 3/4 minutes (b) you have to wait/queue a bit and (c) it's covered in graffiti - but so what! The hills (and therefore the need to get up those hills) are...More

The tram climbs a steep hill and will provide you easy access to the park at the top (with good views of LIsbon). Make a right turn after exiting the tram and the park is right there. Also, if you walk down the block from...More

A long waiting time for couple of minutes of transportation. I am not sure it's worth it, but this elevador is very nice looking and part of the charm of Lisbon.

I suppose the only saving graces of this place is that it saves having to walk up a steep hill and that it is included in the daily metro/tram ticket. The carriage itself was covered in graffiti, although some might say that this is urban...More

If you have a metro card then it's worth a trip, but I wouldn't pay for it by itself. It's not very scenic but good views once you get off at the top.

The cable car ride takes a few minutes, and you don't see a lot. You easily need to wait 15-20 minutes to get onboard, and it takes maybe even longer before the trip gets started...

It was ok, but at nearly 4 euros not the cheapest way to get up a short hill. I think next time we would walk. In fact we did!

Chiado & Carmo
The traditionally trendy "Chiado" (literally,
"squeak", the nickname of a 16th century poet) offers
plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars where you can
stop for a cafe or cocktail, after exploring its
streets, shops, art galleries, theaters, museums and
viewpoints. It's also the home to the statue of the
famous statue of portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa,
