This is the oldest botanical garden in the country, which lost many specimens to Napoleon's invasion in the 1800s. Great views of Belem.

The botanical garden was closed for renovation, so we decided to take a look. We were not disappointed even it is not in the same class with the well-known museums of the same kind. But, it was interesting enough.

If you have visited the NHM in London then you will be truly disappointed with this one there is no comparison. Half the rooms were empty, very few of the exibits had English descriptions and it was all a bit haphazard.

This museum is just simply amazing. I hardly recommend to everybody who loves dinosaurus, nature and science!

The garden as such is ok, but in none of the ponds was water and the butterfly garden was closed. I wouldn't go there again.

So we visited the gardens in September and decided to ignore the graffiti in the toilets at the entrance that said that these were the sorriest gardens ever and to save you money for and get yourself a pie! Ignored this and paid the €2 entry fee. Hmm it's not the best botanical gardens (and I've visited some great ones)... More

The space outside and around the museum is dedicated to the botanical garden. The garden has some potential but looks like nothing is being made to keep it at its best. The ornamental lake are left empty of water, the path around the garden is hardly maintained and the collection of trees and plants is limited and not enhanced at... More

Reading the info on the board as you enter sounds interesting once they've got your fee you realise it's dry, dusty and mainly poor looking unkempt tress. Upside was quiet place to rest for a while. Overall don't waste your time or money looks like an abandoned piece land going to waste.

A cheap entrance fee comes with a cheap attraction. It looks like a deserted place. Dirty alleys, full of dead leaves, dead plants, no signs on trees with their names on. The famous cactus collection looks like an alien territory where only the most powerfull resisted. Didn't notice any spectacular tree or flower or even bush that I couldn't notice... More

I've read the bad reviews for this place on trip advisor but decided to experience it myself, in case they've done something to improve the place but boy, was I wrong! I see potential but it really wasn't well maintained. The butterfly house was just sad! I don't even know what to say. Don't go... at least not anytime soon.... More

(Botanical gardens only) There are very few labels for the trees so my quest to find out about some of the weirdly wonderful trees in Lisbon was in vain. The 'butterfly house' is a rickety enclosure with dead plants and only two types of butterfly that I could see. I've seen better wildlife and plants in Praca Da Alegria and... More
