I happened to pass by it on my way to somewhere else. I always need to make a stop inside to see how different the interior may be from the others in the city. If you're in the area, it is worth a stop.

Beautiful basilica worth the visit. A must see in the middle of Lisbon. The area around it has great cafes and restaurants.

This is a small pretty church with an ornate painted ceiling. It was built in the Barque style. If you are nearby it is worth stopping to enjoy the pretty interior. This church holds religious services so dress modestly and no flash photography during services....More

The most impressive feature to my eye is the painted ceiling, which is quite lovely. Otherwise another baroque church, impressive scale as it probably just serves a neighborhood.

Not large, but very much worth a visit. Excellent art and simple but clean alter and a ceiling that is excellent.

Pretty much it to be honest. It's "nice" but nothing "special". If you like to see churches it's going to be okay but it lacks the hallelujah factor!

It is great that Lisbon has so many beautiful churches where it is possible to enjoy some stillness and quiet amidst the bustle of the streets outside. This one feels like a reward for getting most of the way up the hill in Chiado!

Basilica dos Martires is next to the Baixa-Chiado Metro on the busy street and square. Drop in for a bit of peace and maybe contemplation. Harmonious interior with baroque features with unusual but effective ornate green ceiling.

This beautiful church is located on a rather busy shopping and touristic street, However, once you get inside, the acoustics of the church somehow manages to isolate all the noise from the street outside. Worth a 5-minute visit.

Chiado & Carmo
The traditionally trendy "Chiado" (literally,
"squeak", the nickname of a 16th century poet) offers
plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars where you can
stop for a cafe or cocktail, after exploring its
streets, shops, art galleries, theaters, museums and
viewpoints. It's also the home to the statue of the
famous statue of portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa,
