Some of the bends and where cars 'forgot' to stop for the red lights or owners left car doors open, made this even more fun on the way down! (very squeaky brakes!). Even more so as we sat at the front where the drivers stand....More

Leave the Car, settle in as comfy as possible for an old tram and enjoy the whole ride what can only be described in parts as a mirror something out of green rolling hills of Africa.

The tram goes along the main road to the beach. Buy tickets at Vila Alda - Casa do Eléctrico de Sintra. Have small bills since they don't have much change.

Got the tram from Sintra to the beach. The kids loved it and so did we. Very screechy brakes at the beginning so not great for sensitive ears and slightly stressful returning due to the number of people wanting to get on and the limited...More

A great ride from Sintra to the beach. Go along an old track through villages. This is the kind of tram that moves people to wave at you as the tram passes. Watch the driver and his assistant ticket taker do all the bells and...More

The tram usually runs on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (even in the winter) so as May 1st is a Tuesday I'm afraid it probably isn't running - sorry! But as it's a public holiday there may be a special service - I have seen... More

Yes, we live in Praia das Maçãs (the terminus of the tram), and confirm that it runs year round. During May, service is mostly regular (about every two hours, nearly every day) and during the winter months, it slows down... More
