A great ride from Sintra to the beach. Go along an old track through villages. This is the kind of tram that moves people to wave at you as the tram passes. Watch the driver and his assistant ticket taker do all the bells and...More

This lovely victorian tramline runs between Sintra new town and Praia das Macas beach, it only cost €3 for a 45 minute ride along glorious countryside and runs throughout the year (but only at weekends in winter). Bit bumpy but good fun

Sintra the town itself is a marvel but if you have time for a third or fourth visit (or if you are staying in the area) you must take this tram to the beach (Praia das Maçãs) - some of the prettiest beaches of the...More

The tram between Sintra and Praia das Macas is a feature of our everyday life, as we live along its tracks. When we took our first ride last summer, I was charmed by its steady roll up the hill to Sintra, and the way it...More

Well, there are faster and less jolty way to get to the beach - but the tram is quite enchanting. I would take it one way, then enjoy the comforts and convenience of the 441 bus back. .
