Climbing is hard in this road and any second worth it. The views are amazing, hiking interesting and diversed. Better to make in amaller groups which makes moving more easy. I advice it just for people who really do hiking and are trained.

The walk has fantastic views but there are a huge number of steps. From Pico Arieero via Ruivo it was 17 km - 1700 m decent and 900 m ascent! Most of it by steps. Think of it as 1 m decent per 10 m...More

We drove to the car park and walked on the well maintained path to the summit. The clouds rolled about below us and it added to the scenery. Lots of photos taken. Take a picnic.

Well, this is something you have to do: take a hike to the highest peak of Madeira .. It took us about 59 minutes, with photobreaks one in a while.. so good hikers will probably reach the top in 30 minutes (or even less ^^)

If you like trekking this is a must see in Madeira. The highest point in the island allows you a 360 view of mountains and sea. Beautiful nature and breathtaking sunrises and sunsets. Easiest way to reach it is from Homem em Pé, Santana.

I was on this trip first time (second time in Madeira). That was nearly full day of walking in the mountains with a lot of pointviews. I made over hundred photos :) Weather was great . Nature beautiful. After few hours of hiking I had...More

Think your best best is a taxi to Pico Arieiro and then hike to Ruivo.
