Nice to stop by for a relaxing think and to escape the bustle of town. Pretty inside but if time is limited skip this and concentrate on something else. Note that the cathedral is closed for several hours in the afternoon most days.

You can argue whether it should be called a cathedral or not - irrelevant. For me, it was all about the great, yet not extravagant, wooden ceiling. By the way, Cathedral Se is not extravagant - white interiors as one would imagine, with only exception being the altar area (which is therefore nicely stressed) and side chapels. Very balanced.

It is a beautiful building in itself with grand high altar and side chapels. Comparatively intimate with some beautiful art to admire, including the splendid painted roof inside. Well worth a visit. We were lucky enough to get in for the final concert of the Madeira Organ Festival. It was a very well attended concert entirely dedicated to Mozart. Seventeen sonatas were played... More

Besides splendid, carved ceilings in Arabic style, there is not much more interesting to see or admire.

This is not one of the most magnificent places of worship in the world, but it has a comparatively intimate atmosphere and some beautiful things to admire, including the splendid painted roof inside. Well worth a visit.

We came across this old church building and what a find. The exterior was very ornate and on entering we found a very busy but quiet retreat. I cannot start to explain this find bit please go if you are in this part of Funchai.

This cathedral in the middle of Funchal is worth seeing for its fantastic interior roof. It is wooden with lots of colourful ornamentation. Otherwise you have the normal amount of chapels, statues etc. The

Cathedral right in centre of Funchal, closed between 12-4pm on weekdays and during services. But if you can find a time when it is open to visitors it is an absolute oasis of peace and tranquility. Very much a place of worship used by locals. Beautiful gold carvings and ornate ceilings. Not a long visit needed but worthwhile.

This is a nice church. Very small for a cathedral. Not as ornate as the Jesuit Church. Well worth a visit
