Have visited this market during my holidays, to snap some pictures and probably buy some of the exotic fruits. I was already aware of the ruthless tactics that happen here with tourists, but in the other hand Madeira is not wealthy and I was decided...More

Great for pictures stall laid out very nicely. Go and see the street with painted doors that is near there.

Have visited this market on numerous occasions and have absolutely no intention of a return visit... They are ruthlessly aggressive stall holders who try to extort money from unsuspecting tourists. Do not accept any samples of fruit unless you are prepared to part with a...More

Nice building but lots of touristy stalls mixed in with the fish, fruit and veg stalls. I wouldn’t go out of my way to see it but if you are going to visit, early morning is best. Look out for flower sellers in traditional dress.

Be wary of fruit sellers. They may try to get you to buy more than you want and charge high prices. The samples may be tricky. I recommend shopping at local market.

nice place but be careful with the tropic fruit sellers, I am not sure they let you try the same fruits they sell!

We went to buy organic fruit and vegetables from this market, as web site says organic available. The sales people will tell you that their food is organic, but are not certified. The prices are extortionate. Not a pleasant experience. Go to farmers market at...More

Was hoping to find a genuine market but it’s just a showroom for tourists. Stall holders are quite pushy and if you’re after more than fruit and veg, though exotic they may be...you’re stuck!! A waste of time!!

This market is not a pleasant place to walk around. The stall holders are aggressively pushy. Don’t taste their fruit, you are pushed into a corner and feel obliged to buy something. The prices they then charge are absolutely ridiculous, 26€ for 2 pieces of...More

No. Nearby are many restaurants in a re developed part of old Funchal. You will find plenty of choice along the narrow street that runs up to the fort at Santa Maria.
