Nice indeed, but not in December

Garden is at great spot with fantastic views and flower smells. Can image when all flowers and trees are in full, December is not perfect for visit.

Beautiful gardens with native shrubbery. Views across Funchal and the sea. Handy to walk to from town centre no transport is required. Good seating to enjoy the gardens and watch the seascape. Clean public toilets available.

Visited in December. went by cable car to Monte then had to get another cable car to the gardens. Not easy, dozens of steps to reach the other cable car. the gardens are very difficult to walk around steep cobbled slopes not enough hand rails. we were unable to access most of the gardens because one of us has mobility issues.... We went here on the bus from the bus station behind the central market. Even in December, what a brilliant display. Not just flowers, but foliage and arrangement. With more or less any sort of footwear it is a comfortable walk round. I envy the climate when I see what grows outdoors all year round here.

We visited these gardens in late October so to be honest my review should only be read depending on when you are visiting the island. Madeira is rich in plant life it's got bananas growing by the roadside. The gardens are well laid out on a hillside (everything is on a hillside) well laid out paths offering good access to... More

I was surprised by the large amount of flowers as i visited the park in January. This garden has so many different and beautiful plants. If you only visit one garden in Madeira make it this one. Less crowded, more beautiful and more interesting than the Monte Palace Gardens. The views from the park is stunning. Reccomended!

Beautiful even in January. Especially the cactus area was impressive. A BIG HUGE minus was the lack of information - most plants/trees didn't have any, and the few ones which did have a sign at the base, only had latin names. Many times we were really curious and..🤔 too bad! There was a gorgeous old house with some dusty boring... More

Not very good value for money. The gardens need more TLC. It was very green but very few flowers. The paths are uneven and quite steep in places. We visited in May, so expected more flowers.

Interesting place to wander around for a morning. It's high up on a hill but a bus does run up from town. Taxi's seem to run a bit of a fiddle. Going up from around town on the meter it's about 10 Euros but to come down they all charge 12 Euros off the meter so I just don't tip... More
