Wow wow wow . I so loved this place. Not a manicured tourist attraction but a real orchard nursery and resource of rare orchids. You can even buy small plants planted in sawdust so ok to take through customs. Lovely tea afterwards and amazing value...More

We booked a visit via our hotel which provided transport. We didn't know about this place despite previous visits and we both found it fascinating. This is not a tropical garden, it is a working nursery. The owner is very knowledgeable and happy to share...More

I can't understand the reviewers who criticise this for not being a glossy tourist attraction. It's not: it's a working nursery, not some sterile, citified florist's display, and it's an absolute delight to wander around. The plants themselves (not just orchids - insectivorous plants, stags...More

Came here on yellow town bus no. 32. Very easy as the bus driver informed us as it’s 150 metres from the terminal of bus route. It’s a steep walk down and remember you have to walk back up so not good for anyone with...More

It's not a very classy tourist-attraction, but if you love orchids, then you can see lot's of different variaties. You can get much information about how to grow and cultivate these fantastic plants. It's a small family business and small-scale. Don't forget to drink some...More

This is not a garden or a display of orchids - it is a commercial orchid nursery that charges payment for entry. When I visited less than 10% of the nursery was accessible, the rest being roped off for "staff only". Apart from the odd...More

Having a brochure of this site from a few years back we decided to give it a visit. The 32 bus took us nearby, so we followed the signs and entered via a doorway. Almost no-one about, hardly any orchids and a general run-down feel...More

After a long way up we finally found the place. It was sad to see such a nice place with great potential in such horrible conditions. It's 4.50€ and you barely see any flowers opened. It's only worth the nice view of Funchal.

A wonderful display of orchids (Sailor Boy my favourite) with Patrick, such an informed guide! Tea in the garden with cake made by Mr John a delightful surprise.

My husband had heard of this place and had always wanted to go, orchids hmmm not my cup of tea, just-up the road he said 3 minuets walk no problem. After what seemed like a five mile hike up the mountain and back streets and...More

Sorry I cannot. I only visited the nursery. The location is away from the hub of Funchal, it is possible to walk down to the restaurants but buses or a taxi would be preferable to come back up as the hills are very steep. It... More
