Gold-guilded carvings everywhere

The Church of Santa Clara was under restoration when I visited. However, the walls are packed with intricate carving, guilded completely in gold. It is well worth the visit!

Got taken here on our Tuk-Tuk tour. Absolutely fantastic views overlooking the city and the river Douro from the grounds.

We were in Porto in last November and found this church after seeing Sao Francisco church which was almost hidden behind behind Batalha Square. The outlook appeared very simple to us but interior was really impressive. The woodwork was fantastic. This was built in 15th century and was free to the visitors.

This beautiful church is an absolute must on any visit to Porto, Seeing is believing. It has only recently re-opened to the public after an extensive period of restoration work that is still very much in progress - a true labour of love. The church is free to visit. The wood carvings are breath-taking. During our "tour" we had a... More

We took a look inside to be very impressed by the wood carvings around the walls. Free to enter and worth a look. The restoration is yet to be finished but still great

This church is currently closed for major restoration, with no information available about when it is due to re-open, so check with the tourist office before you go out of your way to visit. Meanwhile, if you’re in the vicinity, it is worth taking a quick look at the exterior. (It’s only a few minutes walk from the cathedral).

This is the the place to visit the church is circular and also the cloisters are as well which is most unusual. We took the more expensive tour which was €3 each and meant we had a tour of the church and also the 140 step climb up the tower escorted by the military as this is a live barracks... More

Santa Clara is one of the most beautiful churches of Porto, if not of Portugal. the construction began in 1416 to install here the monastery of Saint Clare brotherhood. At the beginning, it was of Gothic style, but by the first half of XVIII century, the interior was completely covered by the best Baroque gold carving work you ever have... More
