I can't help thinking that Prince Henry the Navigator would have wanted his statue to be ON the waterfront, not a block or two back from the river. He does at least get a nice patch of grass and a high point from which to look out to the world, even if it feels a little undignified that they built... More

We were in Porto in last November and suddenly found this statue while coming from the station and looking for hotel near river. The statue is located in a green area and little higher level. Very normal statue, nothing really great to have a special visit, but if you find on your way, have a look

Bz place but well worth the look-for. you will find lots of life here plus tourist opportunities. The descent to the river, while steep, will open Porto totally for you. Read a bit about this King and his son beforehand to enhance your understanding.

Rich in history, great central location....and by chance, our view was from a 3rd floor apartment across the street!....best location for a Porto visit.

This is just one of many statues on view as one walks or travels round Porto. If one is interested in history then it is worth stopping here for a few moments to see this memorial to one of the greatest sailors of all times.

Each time we walked past him felt that he was pointing back to the time when everyone was sailing the sea looking for adventure and an indicator of Portugal's great marine history

When so the first thing you will see is the “Statue of Dom Henrique the Navigator”, this because it is standing above the car-park in the small garden. With on... More

A very imposing statue of the Portuguese Prince who did so much to encourage exploration of the world. And a fitting place for it to be erected.

The statue of Prince Henry, mounted atop a tall pedestal, majestically points towards the open ocean—a tribute to the expeditions of a master seaman. The monument's location, just up from the Cais da Ribeira, is on a large grassy spot and offers a nice place to sit, enjoy the sun and watch the world go by.
