Fell in love with this part of Athens. So beautiful. Can walk few hours around, have coffee or local lunch, wander around local artists shops or just take photos. beautiful!

I enjoyed the time my wife and I spent in Plaka. But..... to be honest.... spend your time more wisely. Take 1 hour to eat at a small place with authentic food. But run away to see other things. There are tourist traps here, rude people, known pick pocketing to worry about, and locals trying to sell you things for... More

Walking and walking. Shops, restaurants, and sites you most see. So much history , shopping and good food in one district.

I actually had a chance to stay here, right across from the Acropolis Museum and a short stroll up to the Acropolis. This is a very lovely neighborhood with may restaurants and shops located here

Serpentine roads, only open as walk through ( though no vehicle more than 2 wheels can pass) and plethora of local stuff - food items to nick knacks , a mixture of various cultures - Greek, Turkish & Persian. A shopping experience you should not miss in Athens .... will remind you of Khan el Khallili of Cairo in the... More

I really liked Plaka. There were lots of interesting little shops, historic artefacts & buildings and the place had a very bohemian vibe. There were a lot of cats wandering about! I wish I'd bought one of the street paintings I saw, so many creative things to see. Close to the wonderful Acropolis, which is an absolute must-see.

We were here every night during our visit for the nightlife and great places to eat (and drink). Its always packed with tourists, closer to the hike to Acropolis and a lot of options to try Greek food. Make sure to walk through every corner of Plaka and do visit the Brettos Bar!

My favorite itinerary is to visit the Acropolis in the morning, walking up the Museum side of the entrance by the theater, and then walking down the the back side by the Ancient Agora and down into the old shopping district of Plaka. Intermixed with souvenir shops are some real gems. Brezzos Bar is one such gem, with the walls... More

Staying in Plaka

Neighbourhood Profile
Plaka
Due to its proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka remains the area where the majority of foreign visitors stay and play. Its attractive features include small squares, some notable museums and the beautiful Mitropolis cathedral, as well as a host of places to stay, eat and drink. Its pedestrian zones make it a pleasant place to escape from the city’s notorious traffic. Adrianou and Kidathineon Streets contain a number of souvenir shops, offering classier items than you will find in the Flea Market. The most rewarding section to explore is the upper reaches towards the Acropolis itself, where many old stone houses with tiled roofs have survived. Up here you can find leafier corners and the odd quaint taverna with unobstructed views of the ancient rock.
