Very interesting small leather goods shop and workshop. In a higher season full of tourists, but we came in march, so I was happy to talk to owner Pantelis, make a photo and buy 4 pairs of sandals 😄 highly recommend to visit and to feel the spirit of Greece. And buy yourself a pair or more, of sandals!

Summary: This place is over-rated and is a tourist trap!!! Don't buy into to it. We read all the reviews online prior to our cruise and thought it was a good spot to check out. Little did we know that it's more of a tourist trap and you better off spending your TIME and MONEY experiencing Greece than wait 1... More

Dear Doitup,We are sorry you got upset because you thought we didn’t give your order priority over the orders of customers that were already ahead of you. But, as soon as you walked into our workshop we, attentively, helped you try all the pairs of sandals you wanted to try. About three quarters of an hour later you decided on... More

If you are looking to buy a good pair of quality sandals at a reasonable price, you definitely have to visit Melissinos. The store is very small and always busy. Since they fit the sandals while you wait, you must allow at least an hour.

I have several pairs of custom made sandals which I have bought here over the years.I have a wide foot and most sandals are too tight for me. The beauty of having custom made sandals is that they are made to fit your feet. This time I got a pair which were made of brown leather with gold decorations -... More

Can't believe that my fiancé and I spent one hour here, but we had a great time hanging out with costumers and staffs. This place is not hard to find and it opens Monday to Sunday 9:00 to 20:00. First, we picked a few pairs to try on according to their brochure. After we tried them on, the staff made... More

I have visited Melissinos Art - The Poet Sandal Maker twice now on two separate trips to Athens. Both times I have been there I have had an amazing experience! I have really flat and skinny feet and it is nearly impossible to find a pair of strappy sandals that actually fit my feet and aren't loose! At this shop... More

Went at a recommendation from a friend who visited Athens 7 years ago and whose sandals are still receiving compliments. Told some fellow travelers on a Gate 1 tour and we went first thing in the morning. Laid back and friendly, we had a great time. 1 of the gals I was with had true custom experience as her size... No matter how many people are in Melissino's shop, there is always a place to sit and time to try as many sandals as you would like. Only by looking at your feet they can tell what sandals would suit you best, what would be more confortable for your type of feet and your shoe size - true expertize that... More

I bought my first pair of sandal 15 years ago and the experience was huge. A real "one to one", a piece of Poem given with the sandal by Mr. Melissinos: a real sense of uniqueness. I went back in August, remebering that special shop but I found just another of the many sandals shops. What they do is just... More

Dear Silvano J, we value our visitors and friends and we are always glad to engage in philosophical talks, regarding art, poetry and music; I personally do it all the time when interested visitors walk through the doors of our workshop and ask me questions about my latest poems and artwork. The pages of our guest books, over the years,... More

On our visit to Athens, I wanted to make sure we stopped by at Melissinos to see what the rave is about. Since they've had famous/celebrity customers, I was expecting overpriced sandals, which I wouldn't buy. We went at around 7pm and the store was empty. There were days that we passed by and there was a line extending out... More

Staying in Psirri / Gazi

Neighbourhood Profile
Psirri / Gazi
Side-by-side neighbourhoods Psirri and Gazi provide some of the city’s prime nightlife. The almost claustrophobic streets of Psirri feature an interesting blend of original small businesses with the restaurants, cafés and bars that have recently sprouted up. The central artery of Agion Anargiron Street has lively places to eat or drink. Further west, you can visit the peaceful ancient cemetery of Keramikos, then cross busy Pireos Street to find yourself in Gazi. With the huge Technopolis performance and art complex converted from old gasworks at its heart, you really have to come at night to appreciate this maze of bars at its best, although a daytime stroll will allow you to admire the excellent street art.
