Preparing greek girls for marriage

Very interesting site with a specific purpose apparently marriage and culture were very important, kind of like a finishing school.

Very interesting site with a specific purpose apparently marriage and culture were very important, kind of like a finishing school.

We went to this sanctuary and museum on free museum day. There was a school bus of children and a few other tourists however, relatively quiet. We drove here after going to the temple of Poseidon. You can view the site in 10 minutes and the museum in 20 minutes. We had rented a vehicle for the day and so... More

Nice ruins with good information. You will need GpS if you are driving. Interesting facts about how this site was to prepare girls for marriages

This temple to Artemis - who was the Greek goddess of the hunt & childbirth used to the most sacred in Attica. Artemis was a very important Goddess for the ancient Greeks. She used to be called "Potnia Theron" during the stone ages and was renamed to Artemis during the bronze age. She was the Goddess of hunting and the protector of young animals and nature. So it's Sanctuaries were always built in areas of great natural beauty and good hunting grounds.... More
