My boyfriend and I decided to take the cooking class offered by Athens Walking Tours. We were not disappointed: for about 3 hours,Fofi, taught us how to make tasty traditional Greek cuisine, using ingredients we can easily find at home, and giving us some insight about the Greek culture. The atmosphere was really sweet and we then enjoyed the food... More

A friend recommended us to take a walking tour with demetria. She was first class. We had afull half-day with her going up the Acropolis. She went at our pace, lots of interesting detail as she took us round the Parthenon, then the Agora and the Monasterake District. It was a real pleasure walking with her, so we engaged her... More

We were with a small group of no more than 10. It was nice meeting other travelers and listening to a guide explain the history and culture of this beautiful city!

We walked throughout Athens and tried numerous things. In the midst you would get a history lesson on why certain things are the way they are. Despina did a great job accommodating a vegetarian also.

Went on the standard walking tour around Athens and the Acropolis on a lovely sunny winters day. Our guide was Eleni who did a good job of making the tour interesting offering good insight into the cultural and political history of Athens. I would give 5 stars other than at times some of the explanations went into too much detail... More

The food tour was exceptional, and I have been on many food tours. Despina, our guide, was very knowledgeable regarding the history of Athens as well as the surrounding countries. She wove the food history into the tour and really opened up an understanding to why and how current food trends came to be. We made a lot of stops... More

This was an absolutely amazing tour we did the Athens city tour and Acropolis! It was one of the best ways to experience all that Athens has to offer! Our guide Dorina was so interesting, informative and enthusiastic about history! We absolutely loved this tour!

Visiting Athens in January is risky: the weather and the insufficient number of tourists for a tour to take place could ruin one's experience. We were extremely lucky - we had the most amazing day we could ever wish for. Despina, our guide, was great. We left Athens with a lot of information regarding history, civilisation and many more. Communicative... More

A group of business colleagues and myself took some time out from some meetings in Athens to visit the Acropolis. In order to ensure we got the information we needed Walking Tours was recommended, and we didn't regret it. Our tour guide was fantastic. Very knowledgeable about the area but to a depth that bled in to the history of... More

Staying in Syntagma

Neighbourhood Profile
Syntagma
Perhaps the best place to get your bearings is Syntagma Square, crowned by the imposing Parliament building on its upper side and surrounded by other large structures, such as the exclusive Hotel Grande Bretagne. The grand avenues that lead towards Omonia are also full of massive Neoclassical edifices like the Numismatic Museum and those around smaller Platia Kolokotroni. Here you will find lots of travel agents, bookshops and fashion shops, especially on Ermou Street. Just south of Syntagma Square, you can take a breather in the lush National Gardens, which extend into the grounds of the Zappeio palace and beyond to the ancient Temple of Olympian Zeus.
