Wow what a place. Its simply brilliant. And coming soon you will be able to walk among the excavations under the Museum. You can see them as the Museum has glass floors. Take in a coffee and cake with breathtaking views of the Acropolis. A five star attraction.

This is a beautifully displayed, spacious, state-of-the-art museum allowing the visitor to see the artifacts from the Acropolis in a chronological order. Do go with an official Greek tourist guide to fully appropriate with amazing collection. A must for any traveler to Athens.

Having had bad luck with the weather at Eastern we chosed to go to this museum. I have to admid that we actually are not really museum lovers - however this was really nice and interesting - not too many expositions, modern ambiance and inetersting architecture. Indeed a place to be!

An excellent display of antiquities finds related to the Acropolis in an ultra-modern setting. I hope to return one day to see the Elgin Marbles returned to their rightful place.

We did the museum visit on our own (no guides). Honestly, I think one doesn't need any guides since the displays are well documented (both in Greek and English) and each minute piece is properly cataloged. Strongly recommend reading some Greek mythology beforehand if you are not already familiar. Wikipedia is a good start. We visited the museum first and... More

The setting and curation of the museum are worth the Eur5! The outdoor cafe on the 2nd floor is also a good rest stop. We like the sun-lit, open spaced museum!

Amazing. 3 hours at least minus the cafetaria. Watch the animation and films...take your time seeing every floor.

This modern museum was really stunning with open space and normal lights. The sculptures displayed were wonderful and do not miss to see the short film on the top level! A MUST!

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighbourhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianised Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centrepiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
