This is a great fairly easy walk. But not with high heels or flip flops! 7 km downhill over stones and path ways. Bring water and some food for your energy and water balance. At the end a taxi will drive you back to the...More

We drove ourselves to the Gorge. The start point is deceptive, as you enter Imbros you’ll see Gorge start signs and parking, if you park here you’ll have an extra 1km to walk to the Gorge start point. Drive through the village until to see...More

We took a common transport to the main entrance and started our walk down to the sea. The ground is very rocky in some places so I recommend hiking shoes or good sneakers. Walking poles are not needed if you do not want them from...More

My two friends and I decided to walk this gorge since Samaria was not yet open. One of our group decided to take the day off and it was probably a wise decision for her since her ankles are not strong. The walk was not...More

It is only about 7kms long. Not a tough walk but it does get hot as the sun climbs into the sky. Also take a pole if your a mature age as the track is loose stones and rocks. Easy to twist an ankle. The...More

The walk is flat And not strenuous but all on rocks so much effort is put into watching where you put feet. Also not very exciting scenery. In short something to do but not wonderful

The gorge is 7 km long. You ca walk it easily by yourself. There are a lot of stones, which hurt your feet at the end. It's not that cold, because mostly the gorge is very wide and sun come to the bottom. At the end...More

Hi there, I will be back on Crete July/August/September this year (2017) and would like to do the Imbros Gorge. I walked the Samaria last year and injured my knee in the process. Not sure what happened as it was fine a few days later. However, I am anxious not to have the same experience in Imbros and wonder if it is as steep descending and uneven underfoot as the Samaria? Thoughts please?

We walked Imbros with a 9 year old without problem. I haven't done Samaria so I couldn't compare the two. There is a little unevenness to the terrain, but it's minor.
I will be in Crete the second week of January, with time in Chania and Rethymnon. I know Samaria Gorge is closed then, but what about Imbros Gorge? Are there any tour operators going there then, or can I hire a driver? I won't have a car, and bus transportation looks difficult. Any advice?

Yes! We stayed in Frangokastello!! BEAUTIFUL! And quiet! There were several rooms to rent. We walked up the gorge. It was not as crowded that way.
