When we arrived and found it was only 2 euro to enter we wondered if there was anything worth seeing (just shows how used you get to English prices). There was lots to explore and the scents of the wild flowers really did add to the experience. Take your eyes from the structures which are fascinating and you will see... More

This is one of the best places to visit in Chania, the view from the hilltop is magnificent and the ruins are both extensive and carefully preserved, it is a much more authentic experience than Knossos. The ruins are sprawling so you will need at least an hour and a half to take them all in.

Lots of information and cheap entry at 2 euros per person. Fantastic views, would recommend a baby carrier instead of a buggy as terrain is rough and there are steps in places.

I am writing this review because I had difficulty finding up-to-date information on how to get to Aperta when you don't have a car and I thought my observations might be useful for people in a similar situation. We caught a taxi from Chania (25 euros - this was negotiated before we left the taxi stand but the metre was... More

We decided to visit Aptera not expecting anything special and how wrong we were. It was a beautiful place with much ore to see than we thought. The spring flowers were fantastic. It is open at 08,30 in the morning and that was a perfect time to visit.

Wow! What an experience that was!!! We went to Aptera with our tour guide - Lefteris Nikiforakis and it was SPECTACULAR! Aptera is an ancient town where you can see the walk of history through 4 (!) different eras - Minoyan civilization, Venetian occupation, Turkish (Ottoman Empire) occupation, and finally Nazi German occupation. They all left their unmistakable touch and,... More

A nice place to visit, especially in spring when all the flowers bloom. The entrance is very cheap (2 euros). I especially like the small old church.
