Not only has the place a good story as monastiri, but the nun has a very special and personal story too. Strange to think of that I was in her store - a book shop - in Nea Smyrni in Athens in 1995. 15 years later she is the first nun in Amorgos in 257 years, and lives in perfect... More

Hired a car from Katapola and this was our first stop on the way south. So very pleased the car hire people recommended it. A long paved track off the main road with room to park at the church. As others have said there are set opening times - morning and afternoon. We arrived about 10am. Sister Irene is a... More

What a fantastic and most beautiful Monastery in a very scenic and tranquil area. I arrived mid-morning and I was the only one there! I was greeted by a nun who spoke perfect English and gave me the history of the Monastery, provided me with cool water and candy. The interior is fabulous and the courtyard was adorned with container... More

St. George Valsamitis is built on the location of the ancient water oracle, dedicated to Apollo. There is a cave with the blessed water in the church. Sister Irini, is the only non living there, and welcomes visitors at the church. She paints icons. This Monastery reopened after 300 years of being closed.

A wonderful little monastery that is easy to overlook. Make sure you check the opening times. It has a fascinating history so read up about it in advance. The nun who looks after the monastery and her helpers are very welcoming.

This is a woman 's monastery and sister Eleni will explain the story of the place. Used to be the water oracle place. Very quiet with lots of cats. You will be offered a drink but must keep silent!

MUST VISIT!! Situated among the hills just beside CHora of Amorgos, a little monastery, white, simple, full of flowers and ...cats! Sister Irene is the main "attraction". A woman full of light, joy and spirit!

Sister Irini is a wonderful person, welcoming everyone and explaining the history of the place. Here there is a very good energy, and you really feel great when you visit this Monastery. Make sure you see the cave with the water in the church.. You can also buy a nice painting from the hands of sister Irini.

Great place to visit. Bring comfortable shoes and long pants unless you want to wear someones old possibly sweaty jeans. You can't enter church in shorts. If you watch Big Blue later you will be able to say "I was there"

This Monastery is alive now with sister Irini welcoming everyone with a smile. Every Saturday morning there are services, following by a community breakfast, The whole feeling and atmosphere is unique. Everyone should visit when visiting Amorgos.
