Me and my friends went to the cable cars early in the morning and found very little wait, it was six euros to ride the car down as well as back up it would've been another six euros but we chose to take the donkeys back up. The trip is relatively quick and provides with excellent views.

Having made the terrible walk down the steps down to the old port through the donkeys mess,it was a great relief to be able to catch the cable car back to the top and Fira. The cable car pods hold 6 people at a time with 5 pods on each trip. They bang about a bit on the journey and the docking... So happy that this cable car exists! We took an all day boat tour to 3 different islands and we took the cable car both ways. The cost has been raised again in 2017 to €6, the cost to ride a donkey back up is €6 as well, so the cable car was definitely a much better choice for my... More

After the downhill steps taking a quick ride up in the cable car was a delight for soar feet! The ride is only 6 euros and lasts about 3 minutes. Donkeys up the hill costs the same, but the cable car isn't anywhere near as smartly as the donkeys!!

we were the only cruise ship in port and the entire process from buying the ticket to getting off at the top was less than 30 minutes. be sure to plan this time into your meeting up with a tour at the top.

We where in line for about 15 minutes, it does not matter if you have purchased your ticket in advance or not, there is only one line. It is a 2 minutes maximum ride very inclined but does not feel sacary or dangerous. And it is the fastest way to get up and down to Fira from port. The other... More

It's not really a tourist event but a necessity it arriving by cruise ship to get out of harbour and up cliffs. It's this donkey or climb! Quite expensive and queues fluctuate depending on cruise ship times. Looks scary on way up

We took the car for the way up from the harbour (6€ in May 2017) and walked dowwn the 600 steps. I recommend it for the way up, especially during the hottest months, but it is pricey, especially if you take it for both ways. As far as we understood, there are no student or both-ways discounts.

We took the cable car as I understand the climb down the stairs is a little hard on the knees. We were fortunate that we did not have a line and was able to immediately get on the funicular.

With four ships in port we expected a wait for the cable car. The line was quite long and took around an hour to get on. What we didn't expect was there was no control on the line. People just walked to the front as they didn't want to wait in line. My wife has a walking disability and those... More
