A glimpse in Lero's war history...

A very special museum..It is located in a tunel with lots of local war findings. The museum isn t well guarded in the inside and many guests were touching all the exibits.

Unless you had a fascination with WWII hardware this museum overloaded you with what looked like poorly described old junk. It needed to come alive with human stories - the film show was excellent (and truly harrowing - but that is war) but you needed to feel more involved with the people who suffered on both sides.

Maybe this is not the kind of thing that people do on holiday but I think it was well worth a visit. We walked into underground tunnels built with blood sweat and tears by the oppressed. Inside it told stories and showed memorabilia and equipment from WW2. It was very interesting but also unnerving to see how little the troops... More

We were taken to the war museum as part of an organised tour of the island. It was well worth the visit not so much to see the everything but as a reminder of man's inhumanity to man. Impressive tunnels built by the blood and sweat of the oppressed. A great short film at the end made up of archive... More

Lovely Museum that could do with serious upgrading, advertisement and support. Explanatory enough and great to see. I wish they could take back one day the goods 'stolen' from them and moved to the Athens Museums. Highly recommended.

Leros was the site of one of the British armies forgotten disasters of WW2. Gathered in a couple of former storage tunnels is a collection of relics of the unsuccessful defense of the island by British and Italian forces in 1943 against the invading Germans. There is an interesting video of this action but it is mostly the debris of... More

Probably the last thing you expect to find in a holiday island is a war museum. Situated under ground in tunnels build before the war. I found it quite interesting & educating. The museum refers to the war between the Allies and the Germans during the second World war when the Italians fought some with the Allies and some with... More
