The villages of Zagoria are uniquely endowed with extraordinary natural beauty, a vast temperate forest ecosystem, distinctive architecture, cultural wealth and the sheer romance of an ancient way of life. From the Slavic word meaning "behind the mountains," Zagoria is defined by the Gamila (Tymfi)...More

A gorge which is considered among the narrowest. A Beautiful landscape which follows the route of the Vikos river . Don’t go during the winter if you want to admire the scenery because most of the days it’s foggy .

Vikos Gorge is a beautiful place in general, picturesque old villages with their folk taverns is a separate story. But I want to recommend the hike, starting from village Koukouli and allowing for 4 - 6 hours, depending on the physical possibilities, to visit 4...More

We have seen the gorge from the location Oxia just outside Monodendri. You park the car and you walk approximately 4 minutes. Stunning view. You feel small in front of this view.

Vikos gorge is definitely worth a visit. The surrounding villages and mountain scenery is beautiful. We did the walk into the gorge and found that it was a well marked, fairly well maintained track. There are some areas of loose stones but nothing too difficult....More

This is a pleasant day trip. You can hike as little or as much as you want. Beautiful views. Wear hiking boots and a walking stick in some areas for those less fit. Beautiful area for photos.

Define "gorge" as being 5 times deeper than wide, (less is a canyon) "gouged" by water. So 'longest' is hard to answer as each river is longer than its gorge = subjective. But 'deepest' can be judged on numbers - the top of the lip...More

If you can get to the village of Vikos there is a viewpoint an easy walk from the car park. It is fenced off so quite safe and the views are spectacular
