One of the island's oldest villages, and unquestionably it's best preserved, Old Perithia is a Heritage Protected Site in a Designated Area of Natural Beauty. The village, 130 houses & 8 churches, One boutique bed & breakfast, The Merchant's House, and 5 local tavernas. The village is slowly and sympathetically being brought back to life by the support of the b&b owners. Old Perithea is a delightful old long abandoned village nestled high in the Corfu hills the area is beautiful and the remains of the village poignant and picturesque . It's best to get there early before the crowds to soak up the atmosphere.

Interesting to see a restoration of an old village in progress, I expect it will take quite a while to complete. There is a lot of taverna's there where you can have traditional food. (we arrived in between meals times so did not eat there). Nice to walk around the ruins of the old village and imagine how the village... More

8-9km ride, past tiny hamlets and lone villas. The views are stunning and better from the trip up rather than from the village, as part of Old Perithia security was that it cannot be seen from the sea. Gabriel's Steps taverna serves Tzatziki made by Yiannis's mum, delicious as was the chicken souvlaki. The ice cold beer refreshed us for... More

Beautiful village (need to drive) but well worth the visit. Lovely atmosphere. Had a coffee and cake at the 1st cafe wow the biggest piece of cake ever - homemade walnut and honey just amazing. Bought honey and pollen and sat amongst the beehives. Would definitely re-visit

Went on the recommendation of a volunteer from the donkey sanctuary and pleased we did - have bought honey but yet to try. The sight and smell of the spring flowers were breathtaking. Ginger beer and ice creams in one of the tavernas finished a walk off perfectly 👍

We visited today and enjoyed the spring flowers and the wonderful views. The old village is located surrounded by mountains with a view to the ocean. We were told by a visiting Greek that the village had been there since around 1200 and the people living there were avoiding the pirates. In 1800 the village was deserted. Have not verified... More

When we visited we were amused by the goats hiding their heads in the long grass so we couldnt see them - but as we were standing right beside them we could - the thing that over powers you about this village is how the families just diminished with the young moving to Corfu town and Athens and the village... The village is placed in the centre of the island, surrounded by hills and olives. Absolutely worth visiting and spending there 2-3 hours to enjoy old buildings. When you wander inside try to imagine how life here may have looked like, why settlers decided to start a village there... After sightseeing you may spend nice time on ice frappe in... More

We went there with sunsport safari. There are some eating and drinking places. If you like to see very very old houses then this is the right place.
